Absolutely! Refugees in Turkey, both under international and temporary protection, have the right to work in Turkey. If you are not sure about your international protection status, please visit the Directorate General of Migration Management (GDMM) website.
– When can I apply for a work permit?
- If you are an applicant (asylum seeker) or a conditional refugee (from Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, African countries and so on.), you can apply for a work permit 6 months after lodging your international protection claim.
- If you are a Syrian refugee under temporary protection, you can also apply for a work permit 6 months after your application for the protection status.
- If you are holding a full refugee status or secondary protection, the Foreign ID Card you obtain after receiving your status will serve both as a residence and work permit. Therefore you do not need to apply for a work permit.
